FAQ

Some Frequently asked questions about our 3d printed kits and various sales policies.

  • Do you sell assembled and painted kits? No, I do not have the time or painting skills to offer that service at this time.
  • Do you sell the STL files for your kits? No, I do not sell my digital files. I only sell resin 3d printed kits of my digital sculptures.
  • Can I order kits in sizes other than the scales available on the product page? I am not offering kits in other scales at this time.
  • Will you ever mold and traditionally cast your kits? No, 3d printing allows me to create model kits without the expensive upfront costs of purchasing silicone or casting resin. It also cuts out the intial labor investement to make molds.
  • Why does it take 7-10 business days for my kit to ship? All purchases are made to order. Some kits can take several days to print. After printing all the parts they must then be thoroughly washed, dried for 24 hours, and post cured under UV light. Once all that has occurred the kit has to be packaged, shipped, and dropped off at the shipping providor's location. On occassion there is stock available to ship right away, but that usually is not the case. Terrors From the Vault is a one person operation so we appreciate your patience.
  • Why do some products show as sold out if the kits are made to order? Sometimes there may be an influx of orders when new kits are released. Meeting the 7-10 business day shipping estimate is important to me as I want the customer to feel confident they will receive their kit in a timely fashion. In order to avoid delays, I have set the inventory levels on all kits so that the shop does not take on more orders than it can handle. Once current orders begin shipping on the sold out item, I will adjust the inventory to show the item as in stock again.
  • Why does my model kit have small raised dots or holes on the surface of it in certain areas? During the printing process the model parts have to be suspended via a lattice like scaffolding structure that secures them to the build plate. When the supports are removed there are small support tip spheres that are left behind that the builder will need to sand down before priming and building the model kits. The holes are drainage and pressure relief holes that allow uncured resin to escape from the inside of hollow parts. The larger holes are pressure relief holes that help reduce suction forces during printing so your parts come out at a higher quality. Unfortunately both support tip removal and filling/puttying holes are part of building resin 3d printed kits. Look on the bright side though, there aren't part line seams or pinholes that need to be cleaned up like on traditionally molded and cast resin kits.
  • What is the best way to clean my kit in preparation of building it? All kits come thoroughly washed via a two step denatured alcohol cleansing process to remove uncured resin. They are then post cured under ultraviolet light to finalize the polymerization and hardening of the resin. Kits do not need to be washed before priming or painting. If you would like to wash them with warm water and soap however, please do not soak them for more than a couple of minutes as the hardened resin absorbs moisture if exposed to it for long periods of time. Since 3d printing resins harden via Ultraviolet light, it is not recommended to display or leave out unprimed or unpainted kits near windows or outdoors. The resin will continue to absorb UV light and become brittle over time without a protective barrier such as primer or paint.
  • What do you recommend for glueing and painting the kit? Super Glue, Epoxy Glue, and Epoxy Putty/Clays are all great choices for assembling your kit. Priming and using Acyrlic based paint is usually recommended for use on the kits followed by a clear acrylic sealer.
  • What is your return and refund policy? Since each kit is made to order, all sales are final. In the event that a package is lost or parts are damaged, the seller will issue a replacement kit or part to the customer. In order to submit a shipping claim to USPS or UPS for damaged items the buyer will need to send photographic evidence to the seller of the damage. Failure to do so will result in delays receiving a replacement kit or part.
  • Do you ship outside of the United States? I am not offering these kits outside of the Contenintal United States at this time.
  • I don't like hollow resin parts. Can you print my kit with all solid resin parts? Unfortunately, due to the nature of resin 3d printing it is not advised that parts beyond certain thicknesses be printed solid. If you are worried about hollow prints you can experiment with methods to back fill them with other casting resins or modified gyspsums. However, Terrors from the Vault is NOT RESPONSIBLE for damage that may occur to kit parts that results in back filling them with other products.
